Why teams migrate from Azure to GCP

Good fit when

  • +Organizations moving to GCP for data, analytics, or ML-first workloads.
  • +Teams adopting BigQuery, Vertex AI, or GKE as strategic platforms.
  • +Companies looking for a simpler IAM model and strong Kubernetes-native tooling.

Strengths

  • BigQuery and Vertex AI are best-in-class for analytics and ML.
  • GKE is widely regarded as the most mature managed Kubernetes offering.
  • Simpler IAM model with organization-level policies and flat role structure.

Tradeoffs

  • Losing Entra ID integration; GCP identity is Cloud Identity or Workspace-based.
  • Fewer regions than Azure in some geographies.
  • Azure-specific services (Logic Apps, Power Platform, Azure DevOps) have no direct GCP equivalents.

Migration notes

  • Rebuild identity: Entra ID to GCP Cloud Identity with service accounts and IAM bindings.
  • Migrate data: Blob Storage to Cloud Storage, Azure Database to Cloud SQL, Cosmos DB to Firestore/Bigtable, Synapse to BigQuery.
  • Translate networking: Azure VNets to GCP VPCs, NSGs to firewall rules, Application Gateway to Cloud Load Balancing.
  • Plan compute: Azure VMs to Compute Engine, AKS to GKE, Container Apps to Cloud Run, Azure Functions to Cloud Functions.
  • Migrate monitoring: Azure Monitor to Cloud Monitoring, Application Insights to Cloud Trace.
Typical effort:High (4-16 weeks depending on service count and data volume)

How it works

1

Describe your migration

Select Azure as source and GCP as target. Add context about your setup — configs, docs, architecture notes.

2

Keshro runs the analysis

Keshro researches the path, finds similar past migrations, and generates a structured assessment with risks, effort, cost, and steps.

3

Get your plan

Review the migration plan, refine it with your team, and use it as a living document during execution.
