Why teams migrate from AWS to GCP
Good fit when
- +Organizations standardizing on Google Cloud for data, ML, or Kubernetes-first infrastructure.
- +Teams leveraging BigQuery, Vertex AI, or GKE as strategic platforms.
- +Companies with Google Workspace already integrated into their identity stack.
Strengths
- Cloud Run and GKE offer strong container-native compute with minimal ops overhead.
- BigQuery and Vertex AI are best-in-class for analytics and ML workloads.
- Flat IAM model with organization-level policies simplifies governance at scale.
Tradeoffs
- AWS has broader service breadth; some niche services have no direct GCP equivalent.
- GCP networking model (VPC, shared VPC) differs significantly from AWS VPC patterns.
- Fewer regions and availability zones than AWS in some geographies.
Migration notes
- Inventory all AWS services in use and map each to a GCP equivalent before starting.
- Migrate IAM early: AWS IAM roles/policies to GCP service accounts and IAM bindings.
- Plan data migration per service: S3 to Cloud Storage (gsutil/Transfer Service), RDS to Cloud SQL (DMS or dump/restore), DynamoDB to Firestore/Bigtable.
- Rebuild networking: VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, load balancers, and DNS.
- Migrate compute last after data and networking are validated.
How it works
Describe your migration
Select AWS as source and GCP as target. Add context about your setup — configs, docs, architecture notes.
Keshro runs the analysis
Keshro researches the path, finds similar past migrations, and generates a structured assessment with risks, effort, cost, and steps.
Get your plan
Review the migration plan, refine it with your team, and use it as a living document during execution.
